ABOUT the Park:

**Whitewater Preserve** is a 2,851-acre nature conservancy tucked into a dramatic canyon just outside Palm Springs. Camp along the year-round Whitewater River, explore miles of scenic hiking trails—including access to the Pacific Crest Trail—and let the kids try catch-and-release fishing in the trout ponds (fish food provided at the ranger station).
Managed by The Wildlands Conservancy, this preserve is a vital wildlife corridor and gateway to the San Gorgonio Wilderness, home to desert bighorn sheep, deer, bear, and protected bird species. It’s desert beauty with real wilderness access—without giving up the basics.

WEATHER:

Late March at Whitewater Preserve brings classic desert spring conditions—warm, sunny days and cool evenings. Daytime highs are usually in the mid-70s to low-80s°F, ideal for hiking, fishing, and exploring the canyon trails. After sunset, temperatures drop into the low-50s°F (and occasionally cooler), so plan for layers and a warm sleeping setup.
Rain is uncommon this time of year, and skies are typically clear with plenty of sunshine—prime camping weather.

ABOUT OUR CAMPSITE:

We’ll be staying at the group campsite inside Whitewater Preserve, set in a striking desert canyon along the year-round Whitewater River. Our site includes picnic tables, fire rings, and nearby restrooms—comfortable, but still fully immersed in nature. Trails begin right from camp.
In March, the preserve comes alive with spring growth. You may see blooming desert wildflowers, cottonwoods and willows leafing out along the river, and wildlife such as desert bighorn sheep, deer, lizards, and a wide variety of migratory birds. It’s a beautiful season to experience the desert waking up.
